Bought to replace the mount that came with my Tomtom as the cable no longer sat properly in it’s socket so satnav would charge intermittently. Identical in every respect to the original and since that lasted 3 years of being placed/removed almost daily I expect this one to be just as sturdy and secure. Fits my Tomtom GO expert perfectly.Like the original it’s a case of place on glass, twist base, done. No spit or other liquid needed for the suction pad…the twist creates the vacuum. All you need to do is make sure windscreen (or other surface) is smooth and clean.

I’m convinced this TomTom Active Magnetic Mount is just plain garbage. I want to be clear, this has nothing to do with thinkassemble.co.uk – I believe they’re selling it as a genuine item. But the product itself is a complete let-down, and TomTom should be ashamed.These mounts simply don’t last. I’ve gone through two in the past few months, and both stopped working within a couple of months. The idea is great: you plug your charger cable into the bottom of the mount, then connect your TomTom using the magnets. The sat nav is held in place and charges via gold-coloured pins, making it so if you need to remove the device from your car or van you can do so and leave the mount in place. It works fine in theory, but for some reason, both of mine stopped charging the device after a short time.I originally thought it was my lead and car charger, so I bought another official TomTom one. Nope, that wasn’t it. So I changed the mount itself, and it worked great for about 6 weeks before dying again. I even tried another new charger lead, but still no luck. The only way to charge my TomTom now is to plug the lead directly into the back of the device, which means I can’t use the mount at all because it covers the charging port!Why on earth would they design it this way? There’s no way to adjust it so you can still use the mount while charging directly. It’s beyond frustrating.If you have one of these mounts that actually works, do yourself a favour and sell it on thinkassemble.co.uk – let it become someone else’s problem. Or better yet, if you have a 3D printer and the know-how, design a mount with magnetic support that also lets you access the USB port on the back of the sat nav. I’d buy one from you in a heartbeat, and I’m sure others would too!

My original mount broke. The mechanism for securing the mount to the windscreen is too flimsy. But I needed a replacement so bought one from thinkassemble.co.uk. My original mount connected via a USB-C socket in the mount. This replacement connects via a micro USB socket. Fortunately I already had a suitable cable, but it’s not as neat as the original TomTom cable which has a 90° USB plug.

Micro USB aansluiting maakt slecht contact en de houder is hierdoor onbruikbaar
Ook bij mij blijkt de micro USB aansluiting slecht contact te maken. Bij de minste of geringste beweging van de stekker wordt het contact verbroken en gaat de TomTom in de slaapstand. Dit ligt niet aan de gebruikte USB kabel maar aan de bevestiging van de USB micro connector in de houder. Uit andere reviews blijkt dit een probleem te zijn dat meer voorkomt. Al met al een zeer slecht product van TomTom zeker in relatie met de hoge aanschafprijs van de TomTom Go Discover 7 inch. Ik heb de houder teruggestuurd.
