This is not a standard UHF / FM radioBit of a oddball is this as a VHAM radio, so first thing to point out is that you should not mistake this one for a Standard UHF / FM type HAM radio. This is a dedicated internet based radio that only works when there is 2 or more radios in use on a dedicated set channel. the channels can be set from 100000 to 999999, as long as they are on the same channel number they will work.I will point out that these channels communication wise are not secure, anyone on the same channel can listen into the conversation. Here in the UK there is only 2 public channels that can be found via theTalktap website that are in world wide use.Upon turning on you get around about 10 – 15 minutes usage before the SIM card is locked out, after spending a good few minutes in the instructions and even looking on the internet there was no guidance whatsoever as to how to get support, it turns out that you need to activate the SIM card before you can continue to use it, no details of how to get in contacts but did eventually find a whatsapp number for support and left a message with the SIM card ICCID number to have it activated, This took over 12 hours to resolve so not a good out of the box experience at al.During this down time i also tried an O2, Vodafone & EE SIM card and none of these would work in the radio so you appear to be locked into the suppliers chosen carrier which is not a UK network. If you need the ICCID number hold the down button on the QR screen you then get a hidden mane.Unless you already have another set i would not go for the one unit as a single unit is not much good for anything. the hassle of having to activate is a pointless additional step that is not documented or mentioned anywhere, the fact that this does not appear to work with UK sim cards is a major put off point that again means to use them you will be locked into another non UK agreement. One rather big missed opportunity is that this should have had the option to connect to the home wifi for local usageFor me while i would have prefered this to have been a dual band with both FM & Internet i don’t see a market for this as a product as it is so neich plus the fact that there is already a free way to do VHAM on a mobile phone makes this even more pointless.
