Overall the DVD player works extremely well and plays my films in very good quality on my HD TV. The player is very easy to set up, simply plug in to the power supply and connect a hdmi lead (not included) to the TV. Importantly the next step you should complete is to set it up properly on the menu BEFORE inserting a disc into the player. If you haven’t gone through the setup menus and chosen the correct options for your type of TV and sound system then you are likely to find the output disappointing. The picture quality playing my dvd’s is the best I’ve ever seen, clearly the up-scaling technology works very well. The player itself is small, looks good and I like the inclusion of a light to show it’s turned on (I’m aware this is a feature increasingly missing on dvd players). Based on everything I’ve said I’m sure you’re wondering why I haven’t given it 5 stars. Well that’s for two main reasons. Firstly the controller, whilst it has all the buttons you’d want and is small, I do find the buttons themselves to be of poorer quality than the other controllers I own. You shouldn’t have to use it too often though so this isn’t a huge problem. The second issue I’d note is the price of the item. Whilst some reviewers think this is cheap I can’t help but feel that it’s more expensive than it needs to be, especially considering that for only £15 more you can get a Sony blu-ray DVD player with SMART functions.

Bought as I was upgrading my display and sound system. Old system was projector and screen with LG ‘smart’ Blu-ray player and soundbar with sub.New display is100″ 8k @ 60hz, 4k @ 144hz, along with a Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 soundbar. Wanted something that would do this justice!Was not worried about losing the player ‘smart’ features as new display has this (old one didn’t).Easy set up – no issues there. As for looks, the unit is fairly compact in size so unobtrusive. Remote is a little bit ‘boxy’ I would suggest functional over form on that, but then Sony always were a bit that way.Tried a couple of UHD discs, all good, amazing picture and sound quality.Tried a couple of standard Blu-ray discs, upscaling seems sufficiently clear.Yet to try standard DVD, CD or any other formats.In short, works well but no point going for the UHD option over a standard Blu-ray if you haven’t got something that will do it justice when playing back.

This is good value, works well providing much better quality and ease of use than a really cheap one I bought.My minor problem is with this or with my new TV stand, depending on how you look at it. The power cable does not detach. The plug is too large to pass through the cable management hole in the stand. Hence I have to stand it beside the TV or enlarge the hole myself which is a minor irritation. Nonetheless, I am pleased with it!
