OK so I’ll update my review if needed, but this will be the initial feeling when receiving the headset. Bare in mind if you do get a fault you can simply replace them. I needed to do with a keyboard and I got a full refund after using for around 12 months. So here we go initial review and will be updated if needs be. The barracuda headset (Got it in pink) only, because it cost me 70 euro instead of 160 euro (stated used good condition) came brand new.1. The build will get a 8. So I’ll say it is plastic, but quality plastic. The head rest is leather and feels really good. The ear cushions feel really really good!! It all around feels really good wearing this headset. I mean I’d prefer black or white or whatever colours they call it, but can’t complain for the price.2. Sound quality. So I’ve use cloud 2 as well as the cloud core alpha wireless. I have a pair of corsair viruouso as well as had a set of Arctic pro 1 I think they called back in 2018 ( those broke quite quickly ). So I have a few different makes. I’d say the sound is on par with any of these headsets, but awesome part is these are wireless and gaming is brilliant with them. I mean I am not audio phobe. Just a casual gamer or well someone that usually games 40 hours a week I’d say. Poe, cs2, dota, hogwarts legacy, red dead redemption 2 etc. So basically playing all the normal games. Please don’t judge valorant and League players. Those games are also brilliant and just as a stand point so you can know I love gaming. Brilliant audio for me.3. The dreaded mic. I use discord with mates. So I told them I was getting a new headset. I had the cloud core alpha (wireless) latest headset. So when I went on to discord I was asking my friend how my mic was. He said I sounded better. Now if you look up the mic I had, was probably rated by all sorts of people as like an 8 or higher. So saying the mic is shocking is not true at all. I haven’t done anything to it. I didn’t change settings. I literally plugged this headset in and guess discord really makes the mic cut out background noise etc. So you don’t need the app etc to change anything in discord. Discord settings work perfectly. I’d give the mic a 8. This is when others say it’s shocking. Not true. I listened to myself and sounded good (obviously we are considering the fact there is no boom mic) I’d say it is a good quality mic!!4. Battery life seems to be brilliant too. The functions are very easy to use and the fact all the buttons are on the left hand side ( I am a right hand mouse guy ) it helps a ton!! The virtuoso for example, has volume button etc on the right hand side and I cannot tell you how annoying this is… I appreciate the fact they took this into consideration.5. The distance between my pc and headset when walking away will be a 6. I don’t think it’s the best nor the worst. It is not a detriment at all, but I feel the cloud alpha are better for distance where I can talk and hear until it cuts off. Although once again this won’t be a detriment it is just how I’d compare other experiences.6. The weight. For me this is a perfect weighted headset. I can feel it on my head, but not to the detriment of how long I can wear it for. It is comfortable. It feels good and this headset looks very very nice!!Overall would I recommend? This is the question. On a tight budget? I’d recommend the barracuda x, because they cheaper. I have not used them, but I could say they most likely quality. If you want a better experience overall though I would recommend this headset. If you game and want to use the mic in discord. No one will complain or know any different don’t let reviews put you off, this headset is really good. I have had issues with razer products, but at the price I got these it is worth the risk that if they do break I can send them back anyways.More pros are the fact you can use your phone. Tv. Ps5. Nintendo (I have and works a dream on it too), gym etc. This headset can do it all.Honestly overall I am impressed. Reviews found say this is a 7.8, but I feel this isn’t true. For me I’d recommend this headset overall for all the features you get. Just perhaps try find a deal on them.If anyone asks questions I’ll try to get back to them as well. I do hope this review will help you. Please be mindful this review can be used for noth barracuda x and the one above as the lower version will still be brilliant as the build quality us almost the same as well alas the pro. Just differences are barracuda x – boom mic sounds better than the higher headsets, but with barracuda and the pro the sound quality gets better and better and more features on the pro like anc. To me I don’t need any though. Also the pro comes with leather for the ear cups. Hope this review helps!! Casual gamer. Review. Oh I’ll also use these for working. Works wonders!

Easy to use, cheap price, came with plenty of accessories, mobile app is simple but great nonetheless, sound quality is incredible for the price, works well both wired and wireless, cables are high quality, can be very loud if needed, mic isn’t the best, but what do you expect from a wireless headset? 2.4GHz is an incredible feature that should be industry standard.

So, these headphones are marketed by Razer as “7.1 surround”, but in reality they have two speakers in them, they’re stereo. The 7.1 is a clever audio trick that’s done by the Windows drivers. They make a silicone model of someone’s head, put two microphones inside the ears and then move sounds around the head to simulate things happening in different directions. Clever software analyses the slight delay and the change in “shape” of the sound due to the shape of the ears and the head. They then create a “convolver” model from it. So, the sound comes from behind – they use software to twiddle with the sound to make it /sound/ like it’s coming from behind, according to the model they built using the fake head in the lab. There are loads of these convolver models out there, and razer’s one is… pretty good… But the reality is that the headphone are still just two mid-range speakers. They don’t have the punchy bass to simulate some far-behind thumping noises, and they don’t have the very high treble to simulate some water dripping from above accurately enough. So, to say they’re 7.1 surround is like saying a ferrari can fly because you can technically load it up into a C130 and drop it out the back. Yes, technically, it’ll fly, but it just won’t be very good at it.So, when you plug these headphones in they’ll start to work just fine, but they’ll be stereo headphones. That’s what you get out of the box on Windows and Linux. A decent pair of stereo headphones. If you want “surround” you need to install the special surround-convolving software/drivers. But these only exist for Windows. If you want to do it on Linux, you need to enable the filter-chain for “sink-virtual-surround-7.1-hesuvi.conf”. But that convolver model is proprietary, so you need to go find the “.wav” file for a 7.1 model for it to convolve the stereo into surround properly. In short, getting it to be 5.1 or 7.1 is a faff on Linux. Doable with research, but a faff. Plus, you can only enable the filter chain for everything, not just the headphones.I did it, and I downloaded the best 7.1 hesuvi model I could find and played a bunch of games, and I have a sad revelation…. Playing the games in stereo was just as good. Adding the front/back element from the 7.1 surround just wasn’t clear enough on these stereo headphones. The drivers just can’t quite handle the clarity, they’re too muddy. So, other than that, the battery life is excellent, the BT stability is excellent, the controls are fair, the recharge time is good, and the sound quality is… middling to good. The only strange thing for me is that they support usb charging, but they don’t support being usb headphones. It would seem an obvious choice.. But no, they can be 3.5mm audio jack headphones when they’re switched off (i.e. you can’t even charge them when using them as standard headphones), they can be Bluetooth, and they can be 2.4GHz (with the dongle – more on this later), and can be charged when using Bluetooth/2.4Ghz.So, to the ‘dongle’. It does seem to work well, and has a long range. But the phones don’t seem to want to auto-connect to the dongle when they switch on. The dongle has a firmware bug (apparently) that means that you have to unplug it, and re-plug it whenever you want to re-connect the headphones after a sleep / reboot. That’s just silly. Plus the Bluetooth is really quite good anyway, so I’ve just given up on the dongle for now.But the biggest thing for me is that the dongle takes up a USB port, and the phones also can take up a USB port when charging. If the phones had been designed better, the USB cable would have allowed them to be usb headphones. If the dongle had been designed better, it’d have had a USB ‘in’ port on the back, so the phones could just piggyback on the same port as the dongle. It’s USB-C, so there should be more than enough current for the dongle AND the phones to work.I know these are midrange ‘phones, but there are some curious design choices and strange quirks that make me think Razer slightly took their eye off the ball with these, especially claiming them to be 7.1 headphones. As standard, wireless, stereo, bluetooth headphones, they get a straight five stars. As multi-mode, ‘gaming’ 7.1 2.4GHz headphones, they get about 3 stars. For Windows support, they get five stars. For Linux support, they get three. So, it all averages out to about 4 stars for me. Good, but could be better at this price point.

The Razer Barracuda X is an excellent headset for gaming and general use. The sound is clear, and the microphone works well for calls and voice chat. It’s lightweight and comfortable even during long gaming sessions. Wireless connectivity is strong and reliable across multiple platforms. Great value for a versatile headset.

    Super Comfy
Owned Razer headsets in the past and found them very good so wasn’t let down with this headset.Purchased to use with the ps5 works well just plug and play.Purchased another set for my son to play on his switch.Great little headset very comfortable to wear nice snug fit. Light headset not heavy. Great sound crisp clear. The design of this headset blends in doesn’t look like a gaming headset can remove the microphone and wear out and about while on the go gaming and to listen to Music. Very pleased with this headset you get a lot of features for under $100 money well spent especially for a wireless headset. Keep in mind this is the 2021 older model doesn’t have Bluetooth. The new version 2022 model has Bluetooth. The only thing I could say about this headset is would have been nice if it came with a small cloth pouch to place the headset in when not in use.

    Its a great headset.
Its a great headset. We have 4 of them. It works fantastically with Windows 11 using either Bluetooth or the wireless dongle.

  8. Sudipto Chakraborty

    Amazing mic and sound quality
Probably the most aesthetically minimalistic headphones out there. Excellent build quality; the item is very durable. It felt very comfortable wearing the headphones on my head for long gaming sessions. The sound quality is great; it’s an excellent choice for gaming. The spatial audio is great; I highly recommend it for shooter games. Though the 7.1 surround sound option is great for immersion in story games. I was very impressed by how the mic sounded. It didn’t feel like a headphone mic at all. It felt like a semi-studio mic. I couldn’t find any downsides to buying these headphones, as these are so good.
