Happy with Basebox
I have been looking for a garden room from various traders but prefer to buy from well-known companies. After some research, I considered options from Eurocell and thinkassemble.co.uk, both of which are reputable. thinkassemble.co.uk offered a 10% discount, which was not available if buying directly from the manufacturer. thinkassemble.co.uk handles the order process, while Green Retreats takes care of the installation and post-care services. This arrangement gave me confidence, as the garden room is effectively endorsed by both thinkassemble.co.uk and Green Retreats. Additionally, thinkassemble.co.uk’s pricing was more competitive than Eurocell.
For comparison, a brick-built garden room of the same size would cost around £40,000, which I felt was excessive for a garden office I plan to use only occasionally.
My Experience
Cost: The amount I spent feels appropriate for the value and quality of the product.
Interior and Exterior: I am very happy with the overall design and build quality.
Usage Across All Seasons:
Heat: On warmer days, even when the outdoor temperature is around 15°C, the interior becomes very hot, likely due to suboptimal insulation. I’ve installed two windows and a double door to allow ventilation, which helps. Adding an air conditioner would further improve comfort during both summer and winter.
Cold: In colder weather, I use an electric radiator, which keeps the room manageable. While I wish it could remain warm without additional heating, even a brick-built room would likely require heating in winter.
Installation and Delivery: The installation process was smooth, taking only two days to complete. The waiting period was also short—just 3 to 4 weeks.
Showroom: Green Retreats has a showroom where you can view various garden room models, which is helpful when deciding on a purchase.
New Product: Green Retreats offers a budget-friendly model called Basebox since one year, which has fewer customization options but is designed for affordability.
External Factors:
My garden room is located at the rear of the garden, so I occasionally hear noise from neighbors mowing their lawns.
Overhanging tree branches sometimes drop fruits onto the roof, which creates a noticeable sound.
The room’s orientation allows plenty of natural sunlight, which I enjoy. If needed, I can add curtains or blinds to manage the light.
Current Use: I’ve been using the room for a month and am yet to see how it performs in peak winter or summer. However, with the electric radiator, I expect it to remain manageable.
Additional Features: I don’t have a toilet or kitchen in the garden room.
