Richard Ashmore –
Purchased this after buying a lower priced Android phone and being very dissatisfied with the performance of that phone. The first thing to say is that the Pixel 9a is fairly small in comparison to most smart phones. The performance is fantastic, and I immediately noticed how fast it is, with no lag, and being able to run multiple apps at once, without interruption. Also has some great premium features. Overall it is great value, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Love this phone. My old Nokia 7.2 had maxed out on storage and some apps wouldn’t load as it didn’t have an up-to-date version of android (whatever that means). It ran slowly and the battery wasn’t lasting a day. I chose this pixel 9a because many commentators and reviewers rated it highly on all those counts and the only downside seemed to be its performance on fast moving video games. As I don’t play any type of game, let alone fast moving ones this was of no consequence. Set up was as easy as pie for a none techie like me with everything transferred over from my old phone in less than an hour. BUT BE WARNED. I thought that I had backed everything up as per the instructions but didn’t read warnings thoroughly enough when they popped up during the transfer of the WhatsApp and Signal apps. These have to be backed up separately within the apps or you lose all the chat history. Yes you’ve guessed, I lost all my chat histories on both. Still I’m extremely pleased with the phone, it’s fast, the battery charge lasts for every (I can leave it on charge overnight and it stops charging when it reaches 80% or any other level you choose so no regular overcharging. I chose the 250G version also, so plenty of storage space. Like all technological upgrades there are many new tricks to learn which is a bit challenging for this old dog but at least they are delivered in bite sized alerts.

A great phone, lightweight and a good size for one handed use whilst being very comfortable using two hands. It needs a case in my opinion to provide protection and a bit more grip when taking out of your pocket. Battery life has been good, lasting all day even with the setting where is only charges to 80%. The value for money is very good if you can get it under £400. It ships with Android 16 but once you install the latest QPR then the look and feel is slick.

Fast, smooth, nice screen and main cameras, decent speakers and mic, good battery life. Biometrics are solid, I really like how good the face unlock is from Google here – comparable in speed and reliability to other brands that have great face unlock such as Xiaomi, oneplus etc. Sadly, doesn’t seem capable of working in very dark situations like the other brands though. No big issues with the optical fingerprint – another surprise here.No problems with connection so far. Heard the modem was not a good offering from Google here, but I have had a good experience with it.Gave 4 stars because I believe the pricing isn’t good for what you get, especially when you see what other phones are offering at the same price like Nothing, Samsung, Xiaomi, oneplus etc. At least make it 256gb storage for the base price. Wireless charging should be more like 15w minimum.Selfie cam is still as bad as I remember from Google when not taking into account the amazing post processing that Google is known for. I would’ve thought that 13MP would make for a sharp and clear preview image or video performance, but no, it is quite blurry and smudged in anything that is not in really bright lighting. My much older and cheaper Xiaomi and Samsung devices have way better raw selfie performance than this Pixel 9A.Overall, a solid phone, much improved over the last pixel that I tried which was the 6A. This is a phone that I can easily recommend, unlike the 6A.

Amazing phone. Incredible value 😁

The phone build quality is good, unfortuantely however no matter what settings you go for in terms of camera ( HDR on or off etc etc ) when you share your picture the quality is truly atrocius.I have recorded the same video from a phone stand fromSamsung s10eGoogle pixel 9aIphone 13proAnd the Pixel came last in terms of quality of every picture – mind you when the photo is on your phone looks good – the moment you send it via whatsapp, instagram, telegram, imgur, you name it – the quality just goes DOWN.Even the samsung s10e has a better camera, not because the cameras lenses are actually better – the Pixel 9a should in paper have better camera lenses and hardware but i dont think anybody in 2025 takes pictures just to share them by handing over the phone to a person – simply we share it online and i invite you all to try and taking a 10 second video on your Pixel 9a and then take the same 10 second video on an Iphone or Samsung and then upload it on any major messaging app. You’ll then understand.Battery is good – last long well optimised but thats what i would expect from a 2 months old phone – i turn it off every night and i charge it between 20 and 80 never to 0 never to 100.Software is android – very good – i use a lot of apk for quality of life like youtube premium etc etc – so far this is the only thing keeping me away from fully switching to an Iphone.Overall i would not reccomend at all especially for its price range – you could get much better Samsung phone.

Pixel 9a: piccolo fuori, grande dentro

Ross Johnson –
Better reception, starts up faster without Samsung bloatware, takes very good photos.
After a disastrous experience with having to return a Galaxy A35 four times under warranty and then they refused to give me a refund I bought a Pixel 9a. So really Samsung have done me a favour this Pixel phone is a far superior phone. Although a little dearer it much much better. Thank you Samsung.
