My old TA20 car cable for Garmin Drivesmart 65 was frayed and this is the perfect replacement. Works perfectly and unlike cheap compatibles it doesn’t enter file transfer mode.I wasn’t sure if it was right cable as the compatibility models only lists Nuvi but I thought I’d try it anyway, safe in the knowledge I could return to thinkassemble.co.uk for free if it wasn’t right. If you are looking for a replacement TA20 Garmin cable for your car to Satnav this is the perfect replacement.

Not the cheapest, but at least it works correctly with an older Drivesmart 61 (not listed as compatible).Non genuine (not Garmin) power leads generally go into data transfer mode as they are not wired correctly for a power cable and are a waste of money.Purchased this as a spare power cable for using my older SatNav model in other vehicles, having safely thread the original through my dashboard.

I’m very pleased it’s a original Garmin charging cable for a Garmin Sat Nav I had the original for about 5 years now so it lasted well. This one is built very well if anything the cable looks slightly longer which is always handy. The only difference is this one has a blue light to let you know it’s plug in the first one one was red but I found it a bit bright the blue is not bright which is good when driving at night.
D. Watson –
Not really much to say here, it fit the Satnav perfectly fine, charging too which is a bonus. My only issue is that there was a lot of extra cable, I had to feed it into the compartment to reduce the hanging cable. It makes me wonder why there is so much when you consider the fact that from the 12V supply to the windscreen, the distance is pretty much universal across all cars (as far as I’m aware).
P. Denyer –
My Garmin started behaving very erratically before finally refusing to charge. There were cheaper suitable chargers available but I settled on this one. Very happy that I did. Garmin now working as before including the traffic information function (up coming roadworks etc.).

I bought one of these for my existing Garmin satnav, as the original had been annoyingly mislaid. The first one received had to be returned as it failed not long afterwards at the termination of the lead with the large plug. The plastic sheath was overly rigid and split, basically, exposing metal braiding beneath. The replacement was fine though, with a lead that’s far more flexible so is unlikely to suffer the same failure. Both were purchased directly from thinkassemble.co.uk rather than via a third party seller on the Marketplace, so I know the goods I received were genuine. It points to inconsistencies with product, between batches, and I recommend you scrutinize your purchase carefully. Were it not for this issue I’d have awarded five stars, because it’s fundamentally a good lead, poor sheathing aside. Unlike others, this one is designed to double as an aerial, receiving the live traffic updates available on certain Garmin satnav models. If you own such a satnav it cannot pick up the traffic signal with a standard power lead, so you need this one.

At first, we thought our sat-nav had failed as it always seemed to be fading and loosing the picture and getting a flat internal battery, when we thought it was running off the car battery. We were constantly having to wriggle the connection to get it to work. But we decided that perhaps it was a fault in the lead rather than the sat-nav itself and took a chance and bought this lead for it. We now have a perfect sat-nav again. Poor connections had meant that it was having to use it’s internal battery which did not have enough capacity. This one is very secure – does not loose power if the lead is jogged, or you go over a bump! Both ends connect very snuggly and it has a long lead. Can’t fault it.

Bought as a replacement for a failing charge lead. Worked a treat. Picked up traffic alerts on my garmin, and no more fiddling with the lead to keep a charge going.
Mijaney –
