M4 Mac mini
My old Mac Mini was getting slow – so when Apple released this new model at the same price it was a simple choice. Then as a member it was discounted it became a no brainier. Computer is easy to use and should last years until next upgrade. Very happy.
Mind The Gap –
Excellent Apple quality – everything works!
Upgrading from a 2013 iMac 27″ not updated Mac OS since Catalina, I found that Macs have advanced a lot in the past 12 years! So it has been a bit of a catch up (I am nearly 70) and it’s taking me a while to transfer and update my apps. Well worth the effort as the Mini M4 is a great machine. I’d advise doing research into SSD capacity (both for Mac and for potential external drive setups). I initially bought an Acer 2TB NVMe SSD and a chunky metal (£90) NEWQ external SSD holder to plug into the rear thunderbolt port but it got really extremely hot even with zero traffic so returned to and I’ve bought a cheap plasticy (£17) external SSD enclosure (UGREEN M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure) that I’ve plugged into the front USB-C port and it barely gets warm when under load and I use that for all documents, scans, photos, videos etc etc to keep the minis’ SSD for the operating system & email. As you’d expect from a Mac – everything just works. Perfect for starting something on your iPhone and continuing on the Mac. I have paired the Mini with an LG extra wide screen monitor bought from . I was looking at getting a 4k TV but – thanks to the advice from a young assistant in – I was shown the monitor which is much more suitable as you have to be about 4ft away from the TV screen! All highly recommended.

Great, but could have easily been even better.
A few more ports would be great help and the power button location under one corner is a nuisance which I solved by adding some rubber feet. The audio socket is better being on the front than on the back as previously but side would have been even better as I use a sound system so the cable is stuck out at the front all the time while a side location would have kept it neat while still allowing an easy change to headphones. Overall performance so far has been excellent but, inevitably I suppose, some of my older apps no longer work, and others have taken a bit of fiddling with the get running smoothly. Paired with a decent third party monitor it’s a lot cheaper than an iMac, especially as I already had a keyboard and mouse, and future upgrades should be even cheaper. Very pleased with it now that I can settle down to actually using it.

Miniature powerhouse
I almost didn’t upgrade my M1 Mac Mini from 4 years ago because it’s been brilliant. I use this every day as my main WFH computer and the main benefit for me so far has been the upgraded internal speaker that I often use on Teams calls. No doubt that this will see me through another 4 years and I make use of some of the increased power and RAM at some point.
